Vowel & other marks
Short vowels and some sounds are written as small marks above or below a letter. Each is shown here on the letter ب. In the studio, marks are always kept in your text — hiding them only changes the design.
- بَفتحة · FathafatḥaShort 'a' sound, written above the letter.
- بُضمة · DammaḍammaShort 'u' sound, written above the letter.
- بِكسرة · KasrakasraShort 'i' sound, written below the letter.
- بْسكون · SukunsukūnNo vowel after the letter.
- بّشدّة · ShaddashaddaThe letter is doubled.
- بًتنوين الفتح · Tanwin with fathatanwīn al-fatḥ'-an' ending.
- بٌتنوين الضم · Tanwin with dammatanwīn aḍ-ḍamm'-un' ending.
- بٍتنوين الكسر · Tanwin with kasratanwīn al-kasr'-in' ending.
- بٰألف خنجرية · Small (dagger) alifalif khanjariyyaA long 'a' written as a small alif, as in الرحمٰن.
